Leucorrhea with blood streaks may be related to ovulation bleeding, vaginitis, cervicitis, endometrial polyps, cervical cancer and other factors. Blood-streaked leucorrhea usually manifests as a small amount of blood mixed in vaginal secretions, and the color can range from light red to dark red. It needs to be judged comprehensively in conjunction with other symptoms.

    1. Bleeding during ovulation

A brief drop in estrogen levels during ovulation may cause part of the lining of the uterus to shed, causing small amounts of bleeding. It usually lasts for 2-3 days, with little bleeding and no other discomfort. It is recommended to keep the vulva clean, avoid strenuous exercise, and observe bleeding. If it occurs frequently or is accompanied by abdominal pain, you need to seek medical treatment to rule out pathological factors.

    2. Vaginitis

Bacterial vaginosis or fungal vaginosis may cause congestion and damage to the vaginal mucosa. Vulvar itching, burning sensation and tofu-like discharge are common. You can use clotrimazole vaginal tablets, metronidazole suppositories, or nifurtel nystatin vaginal soft capsules as directed by your doctor. You need to avoid wearing tight-fitting chemical fiber underwear on a daily basis and pay attention to sexual hygiene.

    3. Cervicitis

Cervicitis caused by gonococcal or chlamydial infection can cause contact bleeding. It is often accompanied by yellow purulent discharge and pain during sexual intercourse. Cervical secretions need to be checked, and antibiotics such as azithromycin dispersible tablets and doxycycline tablets can be used after diagnosis. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during the acute stage, and the spouse needs simultaneous treatment.

    4. Endometrial polyps

Endometrial overgrowth due to estrogen stimulation may cause irregular bleeding. Prolonged menstruation and intermenstrual spotting are common. The diagnosis can be confirmed through hysteroscopy. Smaller polyps can be adjusted by taking progesterone capsules. Larger polyps require hysteroscopic resection.

    5. Cervical cancer

Cervical lesions caused by human papillomavirus infection may cause bloody leucorrhea, followed by foul-smelling discharge and pelvic pain in the later stages. HPV testing and cervical biopsy are required. Cervical conization is possible in the early stage, and combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the middle and late stages. Regular cervical cancer screening is an important prevention tool.

If leucorrhea with blood streaks occurs, the bleeding time, color and accompanying symptoms should be recorded, and vaginal douching products should be avoided. It is recommended to wear cotton breathable underwear, change it daily and wash it with hot water. Add citrus fruits and dark green vegetables rich in vitamin C to your diet, and limit spicy foods. If the bleeding lasts for more than 1 week, is heavy, or is accompanied by fever and abdominal pain, you must immediately visit a gynecologist for colposcopy, B-ultrasound and other examinations. Postmenopausal women should pay more attention to this symptom.
