Ovarian cysts can be intervened through regular review, drug treatment, surgical treatment and other methods. Ovarian cysts may be related to endocrine disorders, inflammatory stimulation, genetics and other factors, and usually manifest as lower abdominal distension, abnormal menstruation and other symptoms.
1. Regular review
Physiological cysts such as corpus luteum cysts often resolve on their own, and it is recommended to review ultrasound every 3-6 months to monitor changes. During the review period, avoid strenuous exercise and observe whether abdominal pain worsens or abnormal vaginal bleeding occurs. If the cyst persists for more than 3 months or grows larger, further evaluation is needed.
2. Drug treatment
For pathological cysts, Guizhi Fuling Capsules can be used to regulate endocrine, or cefixime dispersible tablets can be used to control pelvic inflammation as directed by the doctor. Liver and kidney functions need to be tested regularly during drug treatment, and use with estrogen drugs should be avoided. Medical treatment is suitable for those whose cyst diameter is less than 5 cm and has no tendency to become malignant.
3. Laparoscopic surgery
For cysts with a diameter of more than 5 cm, suspected teratomas, or when there is a risk of torsion and rupture, laparoscopic cyst removal may be performed. This surgery is less invasive and allows for faster postoperative recovery, but care must be taken to protect ovarian tissue during the surgery. It is necessary to prevent infection after surgery and avoid heavy physical labor for 3 months.
4. Laparotomy
Large cysts or suspected malignant tumors require laparotomy, and the scope of surgery is determined based on rapid intraoperative pathology. Complications such as intestinal adhesion may occur after surgery, and early ambulation is required to promote recovery. Postmenopausal women need to prioritize the exclusion of malignant transformation when they develop new cysts or when the solid components of the cysts increase.
5. Traditional Chinese Medicine conditioning
For qi stagnation and blood stasis type, Shaofu Zhuyu Granules can be used, while for phlegm-dampness type, Cangfu Daotan Pills can be used. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment requires syndrome differentiation and the course of treatment usually lasts for 3 menstrual cycles. During the treatment period, avoid eating cold, spicy food, and use moxibustion at Guanyuan, Sanyinjiao and other acupoints to help improve circulation.
Maintain a regular schedule and avoid staying up late and experiencing mood swings. The diet should be light and the intake of phytoestrogens such as soy products should be limited. Acute abdominal pain or heavy vaginal bleeding requires immediate medical attention. Women of childbearing age are recommended to undergo gynecological ultrasound screening every 1-2 years. Postmenopausal women should be more vigilant if they find ovarian cysts.
