Premature labor often presents with symptoms of uterine contractions. Uterine contractions are one of the most common clinical manifestations of premature birth, and may be accompanied by shortening of the cervical canal and increased vaginal secretions.
Uterine contractions during premature labor are characterized by regular or frequent lower abdominal tightening, which is similar to menstrual pain but is more intense and may occur more than 4 times per hour. This contraction may cause the cervix to gradually dilate, which may lead to irreversible labor progression if not promptly intervened. Some pregnant women may experience lumbosacral soreness, vaginal pressure, or a small amount of light red discharge.
Occasionally, uterine contractions may be mistaken for false contractions, but preterm contractions usually last longer, are more regularly spaced, and are not completely relieved by rest. Conditions such as gestational hypertension, premature rupture of membranes, or placental abnormalities may increase the frequency of contractions. Pregnant women with twin pregnancies or uterine abnormalities are more likely to experience uterine contractions related to premature birth.
When symptoms of premature labor contractions occur, you should immediately rest in bed and record the frequency of contractions, and avoid lifting heavy objects or standing for long periods of time. It is recommended to keep the perineum clean, drink no less than 2000 ml of water every day, and choose the left lateral decubitus position to reduce uterine pressure. You can use magnesium sulfate injection to suppress uterine contractions as directed by your doctor, or receive dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection to promote fetal lung maturity. Changes in fetal heart rate need to be monitored regularly. If uterine contractions continue to worsen or are accompanied by vaginal bleeding, emergency medical treatment is required. In the diet, it is necessary to increase the intake of high-quality protein and dietary fiber, such as egg custard, broccoli, etc., and avoid spicy and irritating foods.
