It is usually a normal physiological phenomenon for leucorrhea to be milky white and have a texture similar to lotion. Leucorrhea in healthy women is mainly composed of vaginal mucosal exudates, cervical gland secretions and endometrial secretions. Its color and texture will fluctuate with the menstrual cycle and hormone levels. Milky white, thin or slightly thick leucorrhea without odor, itching or burning sensation is mostly physiological leucorrhea. Its main functions include lubrication of the vagina, inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and maintaining vaginal microecological balance.

During the menstrual cycle, leucorrhea may appear transparent and egg white before and after ovulation, while during the luteal phase it may become milky white and sticky due to the influence of progesterone. During pregnancy, oral contraceptive pills, or when you are sexually active, the amount of leucorrhea may increase but remain uniform. It is necessary to observe daily whether it is accompanied by other abnormalities, such as the leucorrhea suddenly thickening into a lump, the color turning yellow-green or gray-white, fishy smell or bean dregs-like changes, which may indicate bacterial vaginosis, candida infection or trichomonas vaginitis and other pathological conditions.

In rare cases, if milky white leucorrhea is combined with vulvar redness and swelling, pain during urination, or lower abdominal distension, you need to be alert to gynecological inflammations such as cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease. People with diabetes or those who take antibiotics for a long time may experience recurring abnormal vaginal discharge. Sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia infection and gonorrhea may also present with changes in the characteristics of leucorrhea in the early stages, but they will often progress rapidly to purulent discharge.

It is recommended to choose breathable cotton underwear and change it daily to avoid frequent use of vaginal douches that disrupt the balance of bacterial flora. Pay attention to cleanliness before and after sex, and change sanitary napkins frequently during menstruation. If the abnormal leucorrhea lasts for more than a week or is accompanied by uncomfortable symptoms, a gynecological examination and routine leucorrhea testing should be carried out promptly to identify the cause and then provide targeted treatment to avoid delaying the condition with self-medication.
