Prostatitis can usually be diagnosed through routine urine examination, but it needs to be combined with other examinations for comprehensive judgment. Routine urine may reveal abnormalities such as elevated white blood cells and positive bacteria, but the diagnosis requires prostatic fluid examination, ultrasound, etc.
Urine routine has high suggestive value for acute bacterial prostatitis. During acute infection, a large number of white blood cells, pus cells and bacteria may appear in the urine, and the pathogenic bacteria can be detected in urine culture of some patients. The urine routine of chronic prostatitis may only show slight abnormalities or be completely normal. Especially in patients with non-bacterial prostatitis, the urine test results often have no specific changes. Positive nitrite in urine routine and slightly elevated urine protein may also be related to prostatitis, but these indicators lack disease specificity.
Some special types require additional testing methods. If there are no abnormalities in the urine routine of asymptomatic prostatitis, it is necessary to detect evidence of inflammation through prostate massage fluid examination. Gonococcal prostatitis requires urethral secretion smear or PCR testing. Tuberculous prostatitis requires special examinations such as tuberculin test and urine acid-fast staining. Urodynamic testing can help identify whether urinary difficulty is caused by prostatitis.
It is recommended to seek medical treatment promptly when symptoms such as frequent urination and urgency occur. In addition to routine urination, the doctor will arrange a digital rectal examination, prostate-specific antigen test or imaging examination according to the situation. You should avoid sitting for long periods of time and eating spicy foods on a daily basis, and maintain moderate exercise to help maintain prostate health. During an acute attack, you should abstain from alcohol and follow the doctor's advice to complete the course of antibiotic treatment.
