Commonly used panty liners may increase perineal moisture, irritate the skin, induce inflammation and other risks. Improper use of panty liners is mainly related to factors such as poor breathability, friction and irritation, bacterial growth, etc. It is recommended that women choose sanitary products reasonably based on actual needs.
The bottom material of panty liners is usually plastic film, and long-term use will lead to a decrease in local perineal permeability. A humid environment can easily damage the skin barrier function and may cause itching or slight redness and swelling. Some people with sensitive constitutions may develop contact dermatitis, which manifests as well-defined erythema or papule after contact with the adhesive or fragrance ingredients of the pad. If you continue to use panty liners after menstruation when secretions decrease, excessive cleaning will break the acid-base balance of the perineum.
Repeated friction between the surface fibers of the pad and the skin may cause micro-wounds and increase the probability of pathogen invasion. Pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus multiply faster in humid environments, which may induce vulvitis or urethra infection. Some ultra-thin pads will form a gel-like substance after absorbing liquid. If not replaced for a long time, they may reversely release water and become a bacterial culture medium. Diabetics or people with low immunity are more likely to develop secondary fungal infections when using pads.
It is recommended to use panty liners only for a short period of time when discharge increases before and after menstruation, and products with a fragrance-free and cotton-soft surface are preferred. Breathable cotton underwear should be worn daily and changed frequently. If persistent burning pain or abnormal secretions occur, seek medical advice promptly. Just rinse with warm water when cleaning the perineum. Excessive use of lotion will destroy the protective flora. It is recommended to change menstrual sanitary napkins every 2-3 hours. If there is no obvious secretion during non-menstrual periods, there is no need to use additional pads.
